The GO search engine is capable of supporting any iFilter that conforms with the Microsoft iFilter Interface Specification. An iFilter is a plugin for a Full-text search engine that allows the search engine to index additional types of files that may not be natively supported by the search engine.

To index PDF documents a third-party iFilter is needed. There are currently two main PDF iFilters available, these are from Foxit and PDFlib.

In order to successfully index PDF documents on GreenOrbit installations the Foxit (PDF iFilter 2.0 http://www.foxitsoftware.com/pdf/ifilter/) or PDFlib (TET PDF IFilter 3.0 http://www.pdflib.com/products/tet-pdf-ifilter/) iFilter needs to be installed.

Installing Foxit PDF IFilter 2.0

To install the Foxit PDF iFilter simply download the installer from Foxit (http://www.foxitsoftware.com/pdf/ifilter/try_buy.php) and run the installer package on the database server. Please note that if you have previously installed another PDF iFilter, such as Adobe’s, this should be uninstalled prior to installing the new iFilter.
