FrontEnd Security Levels
by Nic Passmore

The security model within GreenOrbit can be applied at multiple levels i.e. per Subsite, Application, Folder, Page, etc.

This flexible security model enables you to deploy basic or sophisticated publishing protocols, determine who can read content on the intranet as well as restrict who can access information, i.e. deny access.

What are the security levels?

How do I apply security?

Security can be applied at the Subsite level meaning that the permissions will be inherited by all relevant applications within that subsite.  See Subsite Security to learn how

If you wish to be more specific with the security then you can set (or override) security settings at the Application level as well, for example providing the ability for a user to edit only New Categories or Calendars.

Even more granular control can be applied within an Application at the Folder or Item level. For example allowing a user to edit one particular News Category, a single Calendar, or all pages within a CMS folder.

Security Levels Explained

Full Control:

  • create/edit/delete content (e.g. Pages/Documents) and content is automatically approved
  • create/edit/delete sections of the site structure (e.g. add a new Folder/Category)
  • create/edit/delete templates in applications where templates are applicable (e.g. for pages created in CMS)
  • set security

Editor:

  • create/edit/delete content (e.g. Pages/Documents) and content is automatically approved
  • create/edit/delete sections of the site structure (e.g. add a new Folder/Category)
  • cannot set security

Contributor:

  • create/edit content (e.g. Pages/Documents) but can only delete content that they have created
  • content that is created/edited will need to be approved in applications where an approval process is implemented
  • cannot change the site structure (e.g. add a new Folder/Category)
  • cannot set security

Creator:

  • create content (e.g Pages/Documents) but can only edit/delete content that they have created
  • content that is created/edited will need to be approved in applications where an approval process is implemented
  • cannot change the site structure (e.g. add a new Folder/Category)
  • cannot set security

Read Only:

  • can only view/download content items
  • can post to Activity Feed and comment on posts
  • can post to Channels and comment on posts

Deny Access:

  • access is denied to the item
